Sorry to have been away so long but decided at the last minute to attend Craig Duswalt's "Rock Star System for Success" Seminar from Thursday 9/21 through Sunday 9/25 and it was all-consuming. Arrival at 9 a.m. at the Westin Hotel near LAX - which meant planning for a 2 hr. morning drive except on Saturday and Sunday - and things kept going with entertainment in the evening. Wow. Had a great time and met a lot of really nice, energetic people. It was terrific seeing both Craig and Glenn Moreshower, who met and bonded when I directed them in a production of "The Last Meeting of the Knights of the White Magnolia," shortly before Glenn's career soared into the stratosphere on "24." Craig generously managed to point out that fact to the room of 300+ people whenever he acknowleged Glenn's arrival, turning me into an instant mini-celebrity. Glenn, my favorite contemporary philosopher, was the speaker on Friday evening. As usual, he left everyone wiser and aching from laughter.
Which was a good thing, because, as I posted on Facebook first thing on Saturday morning, "Got in at 1 a.m. last night. David & Patti were waiting up for me. Dan Symmes, (to whom I was married for 8 years) had passed away of a heart attack on Thursday afternoon and Patti happened to hear about it while she was at work. He was a lovely man and a terrific human being and we all regretted that marriage wasn't right for us. He was there to save Shawna's life and to hold my hand during rough times, later. You can see who he was as he lived his dream at (Dan's web address). Please say one for him. Rest in Peace, my dear friend."
This page doesn't support direct links, so you'll have to check my Links page for both Dan and Glenn.
Probably needless to say that I barely slept Friday night, was out until 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, barely made it to the Westin by 9 a.m., got back home at 5 p.m. and fell asleep for a couple of short naps during a DVD-dinner. Finally got some sleep, that night.
So today has been catching up with email and Facebook and bouncing off walls because Dan's secretary & I did telephone tag until a couple of hours ago. I have to say I'm so very grateful for the friends and acquaintances who have expressed condolences both in email and on FB. And I am most especially blessed in my husband, David, who understands how hard it is for me to have lost such a friend.
Got to get some paperwork taken care of (where is the time to write?) and fall into bed.
As you've probably guessed, by now, I can't blog every single day but I promise to be here at least once (or twice) a week.
