One of these days I'm going to find time to figure out how to put in a link to Facebook but until then I'm just going to have to copy and paste (and edit) from here:
I was too late to register for World Fantasy Con in San Diego, this weekend, but a friend who is an agent had clients there and flew in from NY to hang out, so she invited me to hang out, too. Left Westwood at 3 p.m. 140 miles (and 5 hours) later (God Bless going home traffic in any megalopolis - and the broken 405 while they attempt to fix it) there I was.
Met some nice folks, had dinner, drinks, handed out my business card, told everyone I need Members on my author web site (not to mention "Likes" on the DRAGON SOLSTICE Facebook page), fell into bed. Spent yesterday (Friday) ditto, and left this morning at 11, arriving home in the West Valley at 1 p.m. (isn't it always a shorter drive going home?).I have to admit a twinge that I didn't learn about it in time to be fully registered. The main speaker was Connie Willis. Connie Willis! While everyone else was listening to her drop pearls of wisdom at the official dinner, last night, I was alone with my fabulous porterhouse and ice tea, listening to the participants in the piano bar. I finally gave up and went over to elbow my way in and massacred "Bobby McGee" for the millionth time, then went off to see the last 45 minutes of "Grimm" in my room (really good show - NBC has finally done something right that doesn't involve closeups of rampaging bullets).
Just checked here and there's been no action while I was gone (I guess everybody is still busy networking and partying). Folks don't seem to understand that "Please join my web site, I need 35,000 members in order to impress a mainline publisher," means exactly that. Apparently, it translates in some people's minds to, "check out my web site and then you can go away." Honestly not grousing, just bemused. I don't know how to convey, "Please Register as a Member and spend some time cruising around - and come back often!" (Is it that confusing or am I not as interesting as I hope to be?) The Con doesn't end until Sunday, so here's hoping things pick up after that.
Back to finishing the proofs so that DRAGON SOLSTICE can be resubmitted to CreateSpace and I can order a final proof.
